Holiday: Scotland, part 1

Continuing on in the adventure...we left Sweden Monday morning and flew to Edinburgh to meet up with 2 incredibly special family members, Grandaddy and Yaya (Paul and Toni) and 2 dear friends, Sam and Christy Collins.

We spent a few days in the city before taking a train to Aviemore and a taxi to Dell of Abernethy.
Early morning nap in the car - those are always welcome
Checking in for our last flight before seeing Grandaddy and Yaya
Reunions!

 Sights from The Royal Mile

This guy could do incredible things with spray paint...
Arthur's Seat The oldest 4 Cashes headed out for a hike Monday evening.  Amazing views...sweet time with 2 cool kids....perfect weather...all around a wonderful outing.

Pizza Picnic delightful dinner after our hike

Edinburgh Castle Tuesday morning we made our way to the castle and wandered around a bit.  It was quite the typical rainy morning in Scotland...

the One O'Clock Gun
Caroline wasn't the biggest fan of the cannon blast....it was hard convincing her that it wasn't going to go off again
The girls found a picture of a boat in dry dock and wanted their picture taken with it
Yaya and Caroline doing one of their hand clapping songs

 Beauty
Roses from the Prince's Street Garden

Moments in the flat We stayed in a flat at 1 Parliament Square - an actual part of what used to be Parliament!  It was right across from St. Giles Cathedral and just off of the Royal Mile.
Perfect place for a glass of apple juice and a snack
Window Seat with a view
Eli asked Yaya for Bunny Footie Pajamas...Yaya delivered!
Miss Christy and Emma's Chess Game...with a bunny in the background

Sisters' Secret Handshake They were making it up and perfecting it while we waited on the train that was to take us to Falkirk

Reading the morning paper on the train
A Poppy from a Scottish gentleman who was working in his garden while we were finding our way to the Falkirk Wheel
The Falkirk Wheel We visited (and rode) the world's only rotating boat lift on Wednesday.  Lovely day for an interesting experience.
Emma's sheer excitement about being on the boat
Grandaddy capturing the excitement
Water Play Park at the Falkirk Wheel

Moving water uphill with an Archimedes' Screw
National Museum of Scotland our last stop of the day on Tuesday.  The hands on opportunities for the kids were incredible.

butterfly display inside a tree
This picture doesn't do this activity justice.  The kids could design a fish with a computer and then it was "released" into the water - you waited to see if the big predator fish ate it or if you had designed it well enough that it survived.  Quite interesting and entertaining.

Viewing life through bug eyes.
Eli White's Space Suit....

We are absolutely loving this beautiful country and this time together....making memories...learning lots....enjoying the blessing of this gift.

Pictures from the past couple of days are already waiting in the wings...

Surely there will be more to come.
